Allendale, Michigan

A growing population of nearly 18,000 residents (2010 census), Allendale is located in the center of Ottawa County. Situated just ten miles east of the beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline and ten miles west of the city of Grand Rapids (pop. 193,316, 2010 census), Allendale is a well-rounded community to call home. Neighborhoods in Allendale offer apartment rentals as well as a variety of homes for first-time buyers, families and executives.

The West Michigan shoreline, dotted by enchanting lighthouses, offers swimming, boating, festivals, restaurants, shopping, antique shops, wineries and art galleries – something for everyone! Condé Nast Traveler lists Michigan’s West Coast as one of the 25 most beautiful shorelines in the world.

Being a coastal community, Allendale’s climate is greatly influenced by Lake Michigan. The average July high temperature is in the low 80s and the average low in January can be in the teens. Precipitation is evenly spread throughout the year with September being highest at 4.0 inches of rainfall. Snowfall averages approximately 65 inches per year.

The Allendale Public Schools partner with the community to provide the best educational environment possible and to challenge each child to reach their full potential. Home of the Allendale Falcons, the school administration is strong in their vision to create self-directed students and responsible citizens. The main campus of Grand Valley State Universityis located in Allendale and has an enrollment of approximately 24,000 students (Fall 2010).
